Horn of Africa Banking Forum
Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Trade and Development Bank (TDB) are pleased to organize a Regional Banking Forum for the Horn of Africa. This event will be held from 22-26 July 2019 at the Mariott Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Horn of Africa includes four countries (Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia) whose cultures have been linked throughout their long history. The region has been at the centre of global attention for several decades because of protracted armed conflict, severe food crises and large-scale displacement of populations. The Horn of Africa economies are very diverse in their structure and challenges. Their economic performance also varies from relatively modest (Eritrea) to impressive (Ethiopia). Ethiopia is by far the largest economy and with over 105 million inhabitants, accounts for 85% of the region’s population.
The Forum will provide a unique platform for engaging simultaneously with Government authorities, regulators and public and private sector financial institutions, as well as relevant development partners. The discussions will be stakeholder-led and focus on identifying policy reform to support the banking sector to play its role of a catalyst for economic growth and social development at the national and regional levels.
The Forum will also explore the links between the banking sector, money and capital markets. Finally, the event will include a 2-day workshop for strategic discussions and a 3-day Masterclass that will look at analysis of:
- Bank risk;
- Systemic risks;
- Sovereign risks and;
- Capital markets issues
